SAM 05 - Football Champioship 2005
A double DVD of the best of the 2005 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Football Championship, narrated by Des Cahill and includes a souvenir booklet looking back at the season and recording the date, venue and result of each match. The 2005 Bank of Ireland All Ireland Football Championship was one of the most exciting seasons ever, watched live by 1.3 million fans and that does not include the audiences tuning in to TV and radio broadcasts. There were close encounters, draws and tense replays and epic performances by teams and individual players. The favourites at the outset were Kerry, Tyrone and Armagh who as it happened were the last three winners. In 2002 Armagh beat Kerry in the final, in the 2003 final Tyrone beat Armagh and in 2004 Kerry defeated Mayo so the three favourites had plenty of recent form to justify their top ranking. But also in the reckoning were teams with a reputation to spring a surprise or two, such as Dublin, Laois, Mayo, Galway, Cork and Wexford who had been showing good form. After many enthralling matches the final was played, on Sunday 25 September, between Tyrone and Kerry in one of the greatest football finals of all time. In front of an 82,000 Croke Park crowd the honours and Sam Maguire eventually went to Tyrone and captain Brian Dooher.
