Kilkenny v Tipperary – Senior Hurling Final 2011.
KING HENRY CROWNS KILKENNY TRIUMPH
NEVER before in the history of the hurling championship had the same two teams contested 3 consecutive All-Ireland senior finals. But if ever that fact was going to be challenged, we knew it would be the men of Kilkenny and Tipperary who’d do it in 2011. Their titanic struggles in the finals of 2009 and 2010 were benchmarks for sporting brilliance and scarcely finished when they were being entered into the annals of the greatest deciders of all time, such was the passion, drama and excellence on display. In 2010 Lar Corbett’s stunning hat trick of goals had avenged their narrow defeat to the Cats in the 2009 decider.
Tipp had to survive a ferocious onslaught’ in the semi-final, from a Dublin team who came within four points of causing a massive upset. The Dubs were left forever ruing what might have been if their injured leader Conal Keaney had been available. Kilkenny’s semi-final with Waterford was also a close affair but the feeling was that both the Cats and the Premier were saving their very best for the big showdown.
Sunday, September 4 was the decider between the two heavyweights. Would it be Brian Cody’s men who would triumph or could Tipperary new man at the helm, Declan Ryan, make it back-to-back.

Bord Gáis Energy, Munster Under 21
Limerick v Cork
A game that had everything and rightly is being lauded as one of the classic hurling matches of recent years. Limerick and Cork served up a feast in a contest that needed extra time to determine a winner. Many hurling fans may have missed it first time round but it deserves a place in the sporting memories of 2011. It was originally broadcast by TG4 so it comes with the original commentary ‘as gaeilge’.
Enjoy this one!
