Hurling Final 1971 - Tipperary v Kilkenny (not available)

Hurling Final 1971 - Tipperary v Kilkenny (not available)

Tipperary (5-17) v Kilkenny (5-14) : A bitter rivalry developed between the counties in the 1960s and they are evenly matched at the start of the next decade. If they win Tipp will move clear at the top of the All-Ireland roll of honour with 22. Three years after the county’s previous final Tipperary have a surprising nine newcomers but also line out with legendary figures such as Mick Roche and Babs Keating still on board. They will have to cope with Eddie Keher, who has been averaging more than 12 points a match this season but are slight favourites

Regretably, no worthwhile film footage of this match can be found in any archives – we will continue to search and if suitable footage is discovered a DVD will be released.
