For Cyril Farrell’s young Galway team this is a third successive final but they’re still awaiting a first win. In the previous year’s semi-final Farrell’s tactics had laid the ground for a crushing defeat of Kilkenny. Since then the westerners have added the National Hurling League title. Kilkenny have a lot of experience and are unlikely to be caught on the hop two years running. Galway have never beaten Kilkenny in a final and if they’re to remedy that, it will have to be done the hard way.
