GAA Hurling 2010 - 4 Of The Best

GAA Hurling 2010 - 4 Of The Best

The race for Liam McCarthy in 2010 began on Monday the 7 September 2009.
.
There was an unspoken understanding that Kilkenny and Tipperary were destined to meet again 12 months later. The National League and Championship campaigns in between, almost fell between the two stools that were Kilkenny’s bid for 5-in-a-row, and Tipperary’s quest for revenge.

In Leinster, The Cats reigned supreme, disposing easily of a Galway team that blew hot and cold once again this season. Dublin and Antrim would later prove their worth, but did little to suggest that the Bob O’Keefe Cup would spend the winter among their own.
Not for the first time, the Munster Championship offered a great deal more in the way of excitement.
In this DVD collection we’ve aimed to tap into the heartbeat of the 2010 Senior Hurling Championship,
and it should come as no surprise that the Munster Hurling Final features prominently. We’ve chosen 4 matches
which best showcased top tier hurling in 2010.

Two of the most prominent players of the modern era retired from the Senior Intercounty hurling scene shortly after
the 2010 season finished up. Waterford’s Dan Shanahan and Cork’s Seán Óg Ó hAilpín will never again don their county
colours for a Munster Final, so perhaps it was fitting that the 2010 fixture went to a replay. The Munster Hurling Final Parts 1 and 2, both of which are included here, could be packaged as an exhibition of the fastest field sport in the world. Dan Shanahan’s extra time goal would seal his fourth and last Munster Medal, but also drew the final curtain on over 2 and half hours of the most physically and tactically intense hurling of the 2010 season.

Tipperary were cautious ahead of their quarter final tie with Galway. They were accused of complacency when they played
Waterford in the penultimate round in 2008, and were so completely focused on avoiding a repeat of that disappointment this year.
Galway were an unknown entity in August of 2010, but so too was the calibre of match in prospect. It turned out to be an epic, with just a point deciding it.

Tipperary fans would argue they were pipped at the post by a game changing penalty in 2009, but the experience of losing
that All Ireland would ultimately stand to them. They met a Kilkenny team weighed down by the burden of the, as yet,
impossible task of 5 back to back titles. As a competitive journey and pure hurling final it would have been difficult to top
the ’09 decider but Tipperary would argue otherwise, as their mastermind, Liam Sheedy was afforded the luxury of leaving on a high.
