Des Cahill - Favourite GAA Moments
Des Cahill began his sports career with RTE in 1984 and 25 years later is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s top broadcasters. Over that time Des has brought his unique style to the world of sports programming with his vast knowledge and natural talent all sprinkled with a healthy sense of humour.
GAA remains Des’s passion and in this special 2-hour DVD, along with GAA legends Mickey Harte, Keith Barr, Eddie Keher, John O’Mahony, Martin McHugh, Anthony Daly plus writer Vincent Hogan, he brings together all the magic, drama and excitement of hurling and football as he recalls his favourite GAA moments. He re-visits the major victories, losses and controversies that dominated the GAA over the last 25 years – starting in the mid ‘80s with Kerry’s 3-in-a-row and ending with Brian Cody’s Kilkenny amazing feat of winning four on the trot in 2009 – a feat not achieved since 1940. In between witness the great rivalries of Cork v Meath, Meath v Dublin, Cork v Kilkenny, Tyrone v Kerry, the rise of Ulster football, great Munster hurling and celebrate the successes of the ‘smaller’ counties like Offaly, Clare, Donegal and Leitrim. The scoring feats of Frank McGuigan, Ciaran Carey, John Fenton and Maurice Fitzgerald are recalled with passion.
