GAA Classic 1: Meath Dublin 1991 - The Royal Battle
Dublin v Meath 1991
It was a ROYAL BATTLE and is a compulsive story.
Probably the greatest epic in modern day Gaelic football - in fact it could be said to mark the start of the modern era. This Leinster first round championship fixture took 4 matches (2 going to extra time) to produce a winner and dominated the sports pages, the airwaves and national conversation at the time. It wasn't just the matches but the sporting background that it was played in at the time that puts in up there with the best.
The drama throughout the series of matches ebbed and flowed from one side to the other and lasted right to the final whistle of the final match.
